![]() ![]() If you've never driven screws with an impact driver, you'll be amazed at how much better it is.ĭirect Tools Canada if you're in the GTA sells Ridgid and Ryobi for a discount, but they're factory blemished and/or reconditioned. Brushless versions of these tools will likely live longer than brushed, but aren't totally necessary for a non-pro user.Īlso, the drill/driver/charger/2 battery packs combo is the best way to buy a drill. (I'm not on Ryobi personally, but it's all available for the brand I use). A mini Sawzall is very helpful for gardening/pruning branches. My tire inflator has come in very handy when I don't want to set up a compressor for a single tire. A small vacuum for the car, or a flashlight for power-outages are always useful. While it's not pro-grade, Ryobi has many many options for a decent value that will also use the same battery. Get something that has plenty of other tools you'd possibly also use it the future. One day maybe someone will invent an ultracapacitor that can replace the battery in these tools and then they could last a lifetime. I've listed them in my personal order of preference. Bosch (notably best for clumsy people who drop their tools). All of these common major brands have decent build quality: Keep impeccable records of your serial numbers and registration numbers and your original paperwork if you go this route.Īlso, you don't need a top of the line tool for occasional home use. They are very picky about registration and re-registration after a part is replaced, so you have to jump through their hoops every time and you can expect friction every time you need your tool serviced. This won't keep the batteries from eventually failing, but they will replace them. ![]() Rigid brand from Home depot might be a better option for you because they have a lifetime warranty. This is especially true if you only use it a couple of times of year on average and it goes long periods stored with either maximum or minimum charge levels. It doesn't matter which brand, the batteries are going to be the failing point. However, as others have pointed out, while their drills could last a lifetime if not dropped or otherwise abused, the batteries will not. If you ask a group of tradespeople who use cordless tools every day which is best, the consensus will probably be that Milwaukee's "fuel" line of tools is currently the highest quality overall. If you’re looking for true BIFL, battery degradation aside, not all tools in the Ryobi ecosystem fit the bill, but some them have proven themselves to be pretty much bulletproof and great bang for the buck. I’ve had a sander burn itself out and a nail gun go bad (replaced under warranty, and it’s replacement is still working perfectly after 7 years). That said, quality can vary in the One+ range - the most core tools (drills, jigsaws, etc) tend to be the most solid and well built and can easily rub shoulders with the more premium brands, however some tools further out in the range can feel quite flimsy and not up to the job, so approach with caution. In terms of performance, features and accuracy, most of their tools are more than adequate for the average homeowner. That thing is still going strong after a full house renovation, shed re-roofing, and dozens of smaller projects - abused to hell without missing a beat. I’m pretty deep into the Ryobi One+ ecosystem at this point, starting out with a drill/cordless screwdriver a little over 10 years ago.
